How a Solar Repair Visit Works
01
02
We inspect the panels, wiring, inverter and roof attachments to find the cause
03
We explain what failed and what the fix involves, then repair it and check that the system is producing

Common Solar Panel Problems We Repair
Inverter faults. The inverter turns the power from your panels into power your home can use, and it is usually the first part to wear out. The U.S. Department of Energy puts the typical life of solar power electronics at about 10 years, against 20 to 30 years for the panels. An error code, a warning light or a blank screen on the inverter is often the first sign.
Production drops. Compare your app with the same month last year, because snow and short winter days lower output in northern Illinois. If production is down with no snow or new shade, a failed inverter, optimizer or microinverter, or a loose connection is a common cause. Sometimes the app has only lost its internet connection and the system is still producing.
Wiring and connectors. Connectors that were never fully latched or were badly crimped can work loose over time, and federal lab research links bad connections to arc faults. That is work for an electrician.
Leaks around mounts. On a shingle roof, the panel mounts are fastened through the roof. Each of those holes has to be flashed and sealed, because sealant alone breaks down in sun and weather. A stain on the ceiling under the array needs a roofer as much as a solar tech.
Critter damage. Squirrels and birds nest in the gap under the panels, and squirrels can chew through the wiring, which can short the system. Some chew into the shingles too.
Storm damage. Panels are tested to take hail, but large hail and wind-blown debris can still crack the glass or shift the racking. After a big storm we check the array and the roof together.
Roofers and Electricians in One Company
Many solar problems involve both trades. A leak around a mount is roofing work, a dead string of panels is electrical work, and squirrel or storm damage is often both. With electricians and roofers on staff, one company finds the cause and fixes all of it. If the roof under your panels is near the end of its life, we can take the panels off, replace the roof and put them back.

When the Company That Installed It Is Gone
Solar installers close, merge and leave the area, and their customers are left with systems nobody answers for. We repair those systems. When an installer goes out of business, the warranty it gave on its own work can end with it. The panel and inverter makers' warranties are separate and may still cover the equipment, though they usually do not pay for the labor to swap a part, so find your paperwork before you pay for parts.
Send us the plan set (the permit drawings) if you have it, the panel and inverter brands, and a screenshot from your monitoring app. The plan set in particular helps us price the repair accurately.
